“My Inheritance”
“Inheritances vary and the greatest appreciated value is often monetary. At first glance my parents are leaving me little, but as I cleaned their house during a visit and sorted through old Kodak slides it became imperative they are leaving an inheritance, but I have to go to Africa to find it. And so here I am, entrusting my small forestry management company in the care of two trustworthy employees for 18 days and returning to a place I only new as a boy where I watched their life’s work from the sidelines between the ages of 4 and 17. What happened to the lives touched in Botswana 30 years later both socially and economically are ‘My Inheritance’; and I must go to see.” Overview: The ’30 year later story’ features three teenagers my parents dearly loved and I looked upon as older brothers; at that time they lived in mud huts in Tatitown, Botswana. Today Smart David Shabani is a retired banker and president of Botswana Businessman’s Association which promotes Mostwana owned businesses; he will accompany me throughout the 18 days and his daughter who works with Radio Botswana will assist in filming. Jabulani Muchado is now a professor at the University of Botswana and is scheduling the first three days of visits and get-togethers in Gaborone. Ndingo Johwa is currently a famed Ikalanaga native music folk singer and will be performing a private concert. Throughout our filming significant get-togethers and interviews have been arranged in multiple towns, villages and cattle posts in Botswana with other loved people my parents vested the heart of their lives.
