Meet me at the Malco
for a Celebration of our National Parks

Hot Springs -- On September 12th from 1-5 p.m. the National Park Service and the Hot Springs Documentary Film Institute will present Meet me at the Malco for a Celebration of our National Parks. This free, family-friendly event will feature highlights from the upcoming release of Ken Burns’ newest documentary Our National Parks: America’s Best Idea.
“We are so pleased to be screening a little preview of the long awaited, latest Ken Burns documentary film project on America’s National Parks to the screens of our historic Malco Theatre.” Malinda Herr-Chambliss, Hot Springs Documentary Film Institute Director said. “When attending our 2003 Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival with his documentary, “Horatio’s Drive”, renowned doc filmmaker, Ken said, “You know what it is? It’s this community. It’s a guileless film festival. There is not attitude here. People come together and they are interested in the content of the films and each other. Documentary films have had a good deal of success in reaching a public that is starved for the world’s stories”. We invite you and your families to come share a Saturday afternoon with all of us in celebrating Arkansas and our great city. Our special thanks to the Friends of the Fordyce and Hot Springs National Park for their sponsorship of this wonderful event.” Herr- Chambliss continued.
In addition to previews from Ken Burns’ film, Chuck Dovish will be on hand to answer questions following a viewing of Exploring Arkansas’ National Parks, which has been showing on AETN throughout the summer.
“We are very excited to be partnering with the Hot Springs Documentary Film Institute, Friends of the Fordyce and Hot Springs National Park, Inc., and AETN in celebrating America’s national parks,” said Hot Springs National Park Superintendent Josie Fernandez.
Additional highlights of the event will include a small exhibit showcasing some artifacts from the Hot Springs National Park museum collection, Junior Ranger booklets for all children 6 – 12 years old, gift bags for the first 300 attendees, and free Hot Springs National Park commemorative posters autographed by artist Gary Simmons.
