Artists from First Step’s Art Ajar program will display their work at the Malco Theater during Gallery Walk, Friday, November 6th.
First Step serves individuals with developmental disabilities. Because art unleashes creativity and self-expression, it is an ideal way for people with disabilities to express themselves. In addition, the Art Ajar program is a means of building confidence and helping the participants integrate into the community.
Through the Art Ajar program, local professional artists facilitate classes each month to help the First Step adult consumers learn different art techniques. Since its beginning in April 2008, approximately 20 professional artists have been involved in Art Ajar.
Many pieces of artwork produced by the men and women participating in the Art Ajar program have been displayed at local venues. Net proceeds from the sale of individual art pieces go to the First Step artists who created them.
“We are so pleased to provide additional exposure of the First Step’s Art Ajar program. The watercolors are beautiful and spontaneous and all of the pieces are available for sale, with proceeds going to First Step, Hot Spring’s Art Ajar Programme.” Said Malinda Herr-Chambliss, HSDFI, Executive Director.
