A special screening from Russian master, Sergei Eisenstein. In September 1929 Eisenstein went to Switzerland to take part in a conference of avant-garde film-makers at La Sarraz near Lausanne. This event became a landmark in film history, as it was the first meeting of independent film-makers from all over Europe. Ivor Montagu came from Britain, and from Germany Hans Richter, Bela Balasz and Walter Ruttmann, from Italy the futurist Enrico Prampolini, and Alberto Cavalcanti and Leon Mussinac from France, - all young people interested in exploring the new possibilities of film.
