American Crisis, American Shame: The National Consequence of Coastal Erosion

Every 38 minutes a football field-sized portion of Louisiana’s coastline is converted to open water-the land simply vanishes! Much of the unthinkable damage caused by Gulf of Mexico hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Gustav can be attributed to this
loss of the state’s natural borders in its wetlands and cypress swamps- caused to
a great degree by extracting oil, gas, and timber industries. This program shows
that unless a coordinated plan and strategy is adopted, the economic impact will
be devastating on a national as well as state level. Save the Louisiana coastline
from coastal erosion and protect our national economy in the process!
